MELLER, Peter

Description

Three Trees
Meller was fascinated by the applicability of his stamps to the representation of natural forms such as trees. Such forms are both regular and irregular; they feature elements like the trunk, that are unique, and those, like leaves, that are repetitive. In these prints, Meller can be seen exploring the possibilities. If, in an image like Birch Forest, displayed in the other room, he emphasizes the wild variety of nature, his Three Trees seems rather to stress its regularity, and he is sensitive to the beauty of both its aspects.
