MELLER, Peter

Description

Bureaucrat
These simple yet memorable drawings illustrate Meller's speed and assurance as a draftsman, as well as the varying effects he could coax from pencils. Drawn not from life but from the imagination, and in a matter of seconds, each presents us with both a complete graphic idea and a witty characterization. By dragging the side of pencil point over the figure of the bureaucrat, for instance, the artist created a kind of gray cloud that probably owes its inspiration to the fact that the Italian word grigiore derived from grigio, the word for gray means dullness. - Eden Slone
