Description

Untitled (Scarecrow)
ca. 1997
Ink on paper
14 x 11" OVERALL
Untitled Scarecrow, ca 1997, is drawn in blue and black ink. Using a cross-hatch technique to replicate the motion of the waves a headless scarecrow is hanging on crossed sticks with thorns placed like wooden planks. The headless figure is hanging vertically and is completed with the same cross hatching technique to replicate depth as well as light and dark. An umbrella is positioned over the missing head topped with a birds nest suggesting the ever present acrimonious relationship between the scarecrow and the bird. Keith Puccinelli was a well established graphic and visual artist who lived in Ventura, San Jose eventually moving to Santa Barbara where he passed away in 2017. He founded Puccinelli Designs in the 80s and worked as a designer and illustrator. Later in life, he often employed his technical skills in design and illustration to his artwork. At bottom right, signature of artist and date.
