Description
Asafo Flag
second half 20th C.
cotton
42 x 62 in.
Asafo flags such as this one have scenes which invariably represent proverbs, usually about the invincibility of the military company that owns them. While the exact proverb for this flag cannot be recovered, it might run something like this: The Asafo captain (the human) says: our strong soldiers (the black crows) will surely vanquish any weak enemy (the pigeons).
