1/4 plate - 2 3/4 x 3 1/4 in.

This quarter plate tintype, image on tin, of a male posed for the camera in swim clothes of the period, his right hand resting on a prop. In the background, an image of the sea is used as a backdrop. The tintype is protected within an ornate case that opens like a box; late sizes are based upon the original 6 1/2 x 8 1/2" daguerreotype plate size, a quarter plate would be a fourth of the size of the original plate.
