Description
Adell in checkered dress
1/4 plate - 2 3/4 x 3 1/4" OVERALL
This ambrotype inclues a woman in a checkered dress, posed on a chair or couch with her arm resting on its back. In her other hand she holds a cluster of flowers. The ambrotype itself, a ΒΌ plate sized photograph, is housed within an ornate frame that opens and closes like a book. The item also possesses a poem from Adell in a separate envelope. Ambrotypes are a form of wet collodion photography that use glass placed against a dark background to create an image. Along with tintypes, another wet collodion technique, they replaced daguerreotypes as popular options due to being cheaper and quicker to produce.
