Kristine's Hope Chest, 1998
Mixed media
3 X 4 X 2 1/2" OVERALL
`The Women Beyond Borders Art Collection includes over 900 self styled wooden boxes reflecting on a specific woman's self-identity using a variety of multi-media processes. Various objects flank this box as the artist has included a checkerboard pallet while a human-like clay figure is embracing the box complete with decorative stamps on the interior. The box, reminiscent of a hope chest, is a powerful symbol--- resonating, archetypal symbol of woman herself. The boxes express the hopes dreams, and conception of women and their quest for freedom of expression thoughout the world. WBB honors their vitality, wisdom, sensitivity and collective power -- Lorraine Serena, Founder/Director.
