Description
Family of four
1863
7 x 8" FRAMED
This 1863 tintype shows a family of four standing together. The tintype is housed within a small oval frame, while the case itself is quite large. Tintypes, also called ferrotypes, were a photographic technique most popular during the 1860’s and 1870’s. They worked by processing an image on metal rather than glass. They were more durable, less expensive, and developed faster than daguerreotypes.
