African-American man seated next to a standing girl

This quarter-plate tintype, depicts two figures, a grown man sitting on a chair while a girl stands to his right side, her hand on his shoulder. It is possible he is holding an object, like a cigar, in his left hand. Both wear hats and gaze stoically at the camera. Plate sizes are based upon the original 6 1/2 x 8 1/2" daguerreotype plate size;a quarter plate would be a fourth of the size of that original plate. The tintype itself is housed within a case that opens like a box, protecting and beautifying the image.
