This quarter plate tintype, image on tin, depicts a posed gentleman with his left arm resting on a prop. There is some sort of fictive image as the backdrop behind him. The tintype itself is protected within in an ornate case with cushioning on the other side. These cases open and close like boxes; plate sizes are based upon the original 6 1/2 x 8 1/2" daguerreotype plate size, a quarter plate would be a fourth of the size of the original plate.
