“During the twenty-five years I have been painting the Southern California landscape I have returned again and again to certain intersections. Sometimes these have been literal intersections like the crossing of the highway and the interstate. But sometimes they’ve been metaphoric or thematic, like the twining of the natural with the man-made that occurs at the edge of the city….Where I want to be is the place where the present day landscape of mini-malls, utility poles and street signs transects our nineteenth-century notion of a view.”
