Description
Playing in Parts
10 3/4 x 15" SHEET
A depiction of a social gathering with five musicians and couples dancing. There is a central woman wearing a white dress forcefully playing a piano-like instrument while a cello player, two flute players, and a violin player look toward her in confusion and frustration (presumably at the sheet music placed in front of her). A couple to the left of the musician group look on, while various groups of people to the right participate in other social activites. The title appears at the bottom center of the work. The words "Publish'd May 15th, 1801 by H. Humphrey No. 27 St. James's Street" appears at the top.
