John Coplans started his art practice at the age of 62. Much of his work focuses on the corporeality of an aging seventy year old man. He believed that the aging process was a neglected subject matter within art. TO make his works he would contort his body into a variety of shapes until the desired pose was achieved. He captured his image with a series of carefully positioned Polaroid and video cameras. By omitting his face from the photographs he created anonymous images that could speak to our collective thoughts, fears, and joys of growing older.
