Description
Richard Nixon, Looking to the Presidency
ca. 1975
poster
sheet: 14 x 8 1/2 in.
In 1974, Richard Nixon resigned the presidency amid the Congresss move to impeach him, a consequence of his role in the Watergate scandal. This ironic campaign handbill features an image of Nixon Looking to the Presidency in 76, but in 1976 Nixon was 63 and only recently recovered from severe health problems, a far cry from the youthful picture of the politician on the flyer. While the former President was eager to regain some credibility, a bid for the highest office was never an option after he left during his second term in disgrace and with the public outraged by his deception and subsequent pardon by Gerald Ford.
