Future Risk is a collaborative work by artists Marlene Dumas and Rita McBride. Dumas, noted for portraiture and figurative painting, depicts wishbones, traditionally signs of fate and reminders of mortality along with a small child. McBride, a minimalist sculptor whose work engages public spaces and challenges design in man-made environments, adds a grid of alternating black and white squares similar to a chessboard. McBrides representation of this game, and its emphasis on logic, coupled with Dumas fragile organic forms comment on the inherently uncertain relationship between intention and luck, forces which ultimately determine a persons fate. title and Signed by both artists below image.
