Heinecken, Robert
Description
She: How do you measure a good relationship
1977-1978
Four color Polaroids mounted to board with pencil text
17 3/4 x 22 3/4" FRAMED
Robert Heinecken experimented with a variety of appropriated imagery over the course of his career. He described himself as a para-photographer because he challenged conventional applications of the medium. This work is part of a larger series titled, He:/She:. Heinecken, who utilized a Polaroid SX-70 for this body of work, referred to the device as a bedroom camera. His phrase appropriately captures the intimacy and innuendo found throughout the collection, which features cropped snapshots of women, posing couples, and suggestive stills accompanied by pithy dialogue. A self-portrait of the artist is featured in the four images here. Signed and dated with at lower right.
